Description: This Hamilton Model 22 Mounted Ship Chronometer is a vintage original that was made in the United States during World War II. It is a 35 size, 21 jewel, lever escapement chronometer that is made with a glass lens, mahogany, and metal. This chronometer is a great addition to any maritime navigational instrument collection and is a must-have for any antique enthusiast. It was designed for use in the US Navy and is an excellent representation of naval history. This is a nice example of the Hamilton gimbaled model 22 chronometer watch. The model 22 chronometer watch was designed and built to meet the needs of the U.S. Navy in WWII. The watch is in a very heavy solid brass tub with a screw-on base. It is in very good condition and it works. The movement is signed “USN Bureau of Ships- 1942”. The movement also has a serial number: 2F 12695. The Hamilton model 22 is an excellent timekeeper. It was designed to run for approximately 60 hours on a single winding. It is intended, however, to be wound at the same time every day. A detailed description of the timepiece can be found in Whitney’s book: Military Timepieces. The unit comes in an original Hamilton complete with an observation lid, glass viewing section, and brass gimbal. The box shows signs of use commensurate with having been used in the U.S. Navy for perhaps over 50 years. There is a Hamilton Watch Co., Lancaster, PA, U.S.A. nameplate on the front of the box. The unit appears to have been well cared for during its life aboard ship and while stored on shore. An outstanding historical nautical timepiece that would look as great on a Yacht as in a study or on a living room table! A lovely example of a WWII era chronometer deck watch. This represents American manufacturing capability at its finest! Please examine the pictures very carefully. No returns. No international shipping. Signature may be required upon delivery.
