HERTHA GLATZ - aka HERTA GLAZ - Opera - Contralto Mezzo Soprano

Description: Program from a March 15, 1940 recital by Hertha Glatz, later more commonly known as Herta Glaz, noted operatic contralto / mezzo-soprano, given at the Peabody Institute of the City of Baltimore Conservatory of Music. Signed by Hertha Glatz at the top of the cover page, in ink. Came from the collection of a woman in Baltimore who attended scads of plays and musicals, and often had actors/performers autograph programs. As note: This singer was also known as Herta Glaz, and was a mainstay at the Metropolitan opera in the 1940's and '50's. Although listed on this program as a contralto, she was touted at The Met as a mezzo-soprano; a range typically described as being between contralto and soprano. Program measures 9.5" X 6.25". Program is in solid condition; especially considering that it's more than 80 years old ! On the left side, you'll see where there had once been 3 tiny gummed pieces/hinges which held this into an album. The owner used the little doohickeys which are commonly used to hold postage stamps in albums, and when this program was removed from the album there was no damage or paper loss.
