Human League & The Future "Golden Hour" CD - rare and unreleased early material

Description: Here we have a rare gem from the deep, dark past of synth-pop titans THE HUMAN LEAGUE: The Golden Hour of the Future, a compilation issued by the Black Melody label in 2008, now out of print. This CD consists of material pre-dating their first single (1978's classic "Being Boiled"), and pre-League tracks from their first incarnation The Future. Okay, time for a little history. The Future featured Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh and Adi Newton. They recorded a clutch of songs in the home studio of a recording engineer in 1977, compiled a demo tape from those recordings, which they took to various record companies on an ill-fated trip to London. No one bit, the band didn't get a recording deal and Newton left the band to form Clock DVA. Ware and Marsh next step was to recruit Ware's mate Philip Oakey as their new lead vocalist. Now renamed the Human League, the trio recorded in an abandoned Sheffield factory, where they put together their first two releases for the tiny Fast Product label ("Being Boiled" and the Dignity Of Labour EP) as well as a number of other recordings before signing to Virgin Records. Most of that material is included on this compilation, along with the lion's share of the Future's recordings. (Only those songs that were later re-recorded for Virgin were omitted from the compilation, for contractual reasons.) Hands down, this is the best stuff the League ever did - bold electronic post-punk that explodes with ideas, slotting in nicely alongside such pathfinders as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire.
