Description: I've finally found more white magatama (the claw/fang thingies) for making Inuyasha's necklace o' subjugation again. That should stop that dang hanyou from digging up your yard. Historically, magatama are "curved jewels" (the literal translation) that've been strongly associated with Shinto tradition; the sun-goddess Amaterasu wore them as ornaments, some of which have been passed down as sacred treasures within the imperial family. Their shapes have varied a bit over time, from a grub-like shape with nearly uniform diameter, to a spheroid tadpole with a tucked-under tail, to a flattened comma shape. The ten magatama in this lot are flattened commas about 23mm long, with a minimal width of 13mm across the head, and a depth of ~6mm through the 3mm-diameter boreholes. They're made of fiber-optic catseye, and their color is creamy pale ivory, a warm white like French-vanilla ice cream. I haven't yet had a chance to pair them up with the various blue/purple rounds in my stash, but these dimensions should be compatible with the canonical size of 8-10mm as described in the IY companion sourcebook. Hopefully these should be a sufficient quantity to make a necklace out of, though I should probably note that with the favorite numbers of 8 magatama and 40 rounds that I've been seeing thrown around, 8mm rounds don't result in a comfortably elastic-based necklace, although it's possible to squeak a bit more length out of strung/clasped construction and seed-bead spacers. The lot is shown at the left side of the picture; the dime and the three oddball magatama on the right are there for comparison purposes only. These new magatama are larger than my previous "small" catseyes (yellow) but slightly smaller than my previous "smallish" catseyes (orange). The silvery-white magatama is the same size as the ones in this lot, and have their own lot-of-ten listing running in parallel with this one.. Fiber-optic catseye is a synthetic material made by fusing 17.85 zillion fine parallel strands of quartz glass into a single body, resulting in the distinctive "chatoyance" effect from most viewing angles; however, if you find their common directional axis and look straight down it, suddenly the stuff is transparent. Most of the time, these magatama are cut so that the axis of transparency runs from front to back (or back to front, depending) of the body, perpendicular to the borehole, causing some slightly trippy visual effects. Please check my other listings for more pretties, and thanks for looking! ^_^
