Description: A colorful hand painted Japanese Imari dish with an interesting shape and decorated with cherry blossoms, bamboo leaves and pine. The porcelain dish is hand painted with polychrome enamels in a design of stylized floral squares, bamboo, pine, and cherry blossoms. The dish was molded with a swirl-like ridge pattern of a scallop shell. There are cobalt blue paintings of plants on the back. The shallow raised foot is unglazed. The dish is heavily gilded. MEASUREMENTS 9 1/8” (23.2 cm) wide x 8 3/8” (21.1 cm) tall x 1 ½” (3.8 cm) deep. Weighs 1 lb 7.5 oz (665 g) CONDITION There are two large rim chips on opposite sides of the rim. You don’t notice them that much because they blend into the white edge. Those are the only damages. The glazes are in excellent condition, except for a bit of wear to the gilding on raised areas. A colorful, hand painted dish to decorate with. I love the swirl of the design.
