Description: How many collectors can say they have a baseball signed by Arnold Cream (or how many know who he is?) This is a RARE autographed OAL baseball signed by Arnold Cream who has added his better known name Jersey Joe Walcott (or should I say Jersey Joe Walcott has also signed his lesser known birth name, Arnold Cream). Walcott (d.1994) was a middleweight and heavyweight boxer who held the NYSAC, NBA and The Ring heavyweight titles from 1951-1952, at the time holding the record as the oldest man to win the title at the age of 37 when he defeated Ezzard Charles in their third fight. Regarded as one of the best heavyweights in the world during the 1940s and 1950s, Walcott challenged Joe Louis for the title on December 5, 1947; a fight that many boxing writers felt he won but lost in a 15 round split decision despite dropping Louis twice during the fight. Walcott ended his career with two losses against the undefeated Rocky Marciano, despite knocking Marciano down for the first time in Marciano’s career in the first round of their first match. In retirement, in 1965, Walcott refereed the controversial world heavyweight championship between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston; became the first African-American to serve as Sheriff of Camden County New Jersey and from 1975-1984 served as Chairman of the New Jersey State Athletic Commission. This is the first such baseball signed like this that I have seen. A real rarity for the advanced boxing collector or collector of rare signed baseballs.
