Description: LITHUANIA - 2 Euro commemorative coin 2021 - Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve. ERROR BU COINCARD with Latvian edge. COINCARD NUMBER: 0111The Lithuanian central bank has recalled a part of its latest commemorative euro coins after it learnt that the coins feature the inscription of the title of the Latvian hymn instead of the Lithuanian phrase laisvė, vienybė, gerovė (meaning: freedom, unity, prosperity). According to a press release of Lietuvos Bankos, it announced on Monday, May 24, 2021 some of the BU-quality EUR 2 commemorative coins dedicated to Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve in Southern Lithuania contain the manufacturing error in the inscription on the edge of the coins. Instead of an inscription in Lithuanian «LAISVĖ * VIENYBĖ * GEROVĖ *» the edge of the coins features an inscription in Latvian «DIEVS * SVĒTĪ * LATVIJU».The coins were manufactured at the Lithuanian mint Lietuvos monetų kalykla. The Bank of Lithuania contacted the Lithuanian Mint with a request to find out the circumstances of the incident and to ensure the prevention of such errors in the future. The mint is conducting an internal investigation and has undertaken additional process control and prevention measures. According to the preliminary data, the error coins comprise up to 10% of the mintage of the BU-quality EUR 2 commemorative coins in a numismatic package. The Lithuanian Mint apologises for the present situation. The Bank of Lithuania also apologised for the error and reminded that numismatic items sold by the Bank of Lithuania have a 2-year warranty calculated from the date of transfer of a numismatic item to the buyer and that the buyer has the right to return the numismatic item. Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve is home to over 4,200 species of animals, plants and mushrooms, and the researchers keep discovering new ones each year. It is one of the richest places in Lithuania in terms of biodiversity. As many as 137 species of animals, plants and mushrooms from the List of Protected Species of the Republic of Lithuania have been found here. One of the Europe’s rarest songbirds – aquatic warbler – lives in the wet grasslands at the edge of the marsh. Lithuania is one of only four countries where this globally endangered bird still breeds. The national side of the coin depicts the characteristic surroundings of Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve: remote islands of a unique bird lake and Lithuania’s largest wetland as well as its distinctive fauna. In the foreground there is a great bittern reaching for a fire-bellied toad floating in the water. In the rushes there is an aquatic warbler, with a flock of grey cranes in the background and a mute swan. Shipping and handling: International registered mail: 13.90$.
