Description: Up for bids is a Mary Baldwin College Ham & Jam Cast Iron Bookends 1962 Virginia Metal Crafters🐕 Beautiful vintage pair of Ham and Jam cast ironbookends Ham and Jam are the famous dog statues in front of the Administration Building of MARY BALDWIN COLLEGE in Staunton, Virginia (supposedly modeled after a favorite dog of Mary Baldwin's) Mary Baldwin College has since becomeMary Baldwin University Made by Virginia Metal Crafters (VMC) It's very hard to see in the photos but the JAM bookendhas the VMC logo on the inner side of his head The bookends could also be used as doorstopsthey weigh over 3 pounds each All of the white coloring you see in the photos (with the exception of the spots on the bottom) aresimply light reflections and not on the actual book ends MEASUREMENTS: Bookends measure roughly 6 3/4" Long x 7 1/8" Tall x 1 3/4" Deep Be sure to check out my store for more vintage treasures,Follow my store to get notified when I list new items ;) CONDITION: Cast iron bookends are in excellent pre-owned vintage condition. Just to be clear these are NOT PAINTED. They are cast iron, they are seasoned (Like a cast iron pan) there are a few spots where a bit of the seasoning has worn off. You can obviously re-season them if you wanted. The JAM bookend has a different finish / feel on the spot between his paw and the front of the bookend. Not sure why, but it's been like that for the past 50+ years. Other than that the only other "defect" i can see is there is a small amount of white paint on the bottom of them (from the shelf they've been sitting on for years). You can definitely remove the paint it just might take the seasoning with it leaving it back to bare silver colored cast iron.
