The first four cars were involved in certification tests - a type limited airworthiness certificate was obtained in May 1959, and full type certificates in the UK and the USA were obtained in December 1960. The fourth aircraft built was the first Argosy shown to the general public at the 1959 Paris Air Show. In October 1959, a demonstration tour of Europe took place - the plane aroused great interest. The first customer was the company "Riddle Airlines" (Miami, USA), which bought four cars in February 1959 for freight traffic under contracts with the US Air Force. She later purchased three more cars. All seven Argosy companies of Riddle Airlines were also operated in the United States by Capitol Airlines and Zantop Air Transport. "British European Airways received the first of three ordered Argosy 102 in 1961 and began its operation in December, replacing the Douglas DC-3 and Avro York aircraft. 10 Argosy Series 100 aircraft were built and all, with the exception of the third car, were delivered to USA (at least four aircraft later returned to the UK). The operation of the Argosy aircraft by the BEA airline turned out to be economically unprofitable, and by April 1970 they were decommissioned. The surviving four cars were sold to Transair, two of them later hit the Australian cargo airline IPEC, and the other two were in New Zealand's Safe Air.
