Movin’ On "They call themselves MOTHER'S FINEST because they play nothing but the finest. They are a band of pure energy, charged with the exciting combination of unique vocal parts and excellent instrumental passages" (Rolling Stone, June 1982). Mother’s Finest is a funk rock band founded in Atlanta, Georgia by Joyce Kennedy and Glenn Murdock in the early 1970s. Mother’s Finest are notable partly because they are an ’interracial’ rock group from the US South. Their music was a blend of funky rhythm, heavy metal, gospel, jazz and expressive R&B singing taken directly from the street to the stage and studio. For the remainder of the 1970s, Mother’s Finest became the most dangerous opening act in rock, blowing away headliners like Aerosmith, Frank Marino and Ted Nugent. Their biggest hit-single “Baby Love” is still the most brilliant merging of soul + funk + metal! True innovators!!! The highly acclaimed formation was founded in 1975 by the colored vocal acrobat Joyce Kennedy and the singer Glenn Murdock - the two married in 1976, because they didn't just agree on music. Within a short time, the ideal partners for the musical concept of MOTHER'S FINEST were found in the instrumentalists Moses Mo (guitar), Jerry Seay (bass), Barry Borden (drums) and Michael Keck (keyboards) are the ideal partners for the musical concept of MOTHER'S FINEST. In 1976, the sextet presented their debut album "Mother's Finest" on CBS, an astonishingly diverse mixture of funk, soul, pop and rock elements, which was received with great enthusiasm in the USA - but also in Europe The highlights of the first LP are the tracks "Fire" and "Give You All The Love". Together with their second LP "Another Mother Further" (1978), MOTHER'S FINEST got their first big single hit: "Baby Love". It became the cult song of the funk generation within a few weeks and is still the group's song today, MF's signature tune Skirt" shouldn't go unmentioned, because they add spice to the album. With "Mother Factor" the group crowned their successful year 1978. The album conquered the top of the US soul charts in a new record time and gave the band their first platinum LP. Can't Fight The Feeling" and "Watch My Stylin'" were also included on MOTHER'S FINEST's 1979 live LP, which impressively documented the formation's triumph on the world tour. After a two-year break, the quintet, still playing with the same line-up, presented the LP "Iron Age", which seamlessly continued the old successes with the songs "Evolution" and "Movin' On". That too The furious album One Mother To Another (1983) maintained the group's high standards. "What Kind Of Fool", "Love Me Too" and "Secret Service" are representative of this. In 1984, Joyce Kennedy launched a solo career, which she pursued alongside her work as the front woman of MOTHER'S FINEST. The group changed labels and styles, had to but quickly realize that this path had led them into a musical dead end. Today they much prefer to play their old hits - and still make a lot of money from it. And although the legends MOTHER'S FINEST have not released a new edition of their innovative funk rock soul since that time , the fans have remained loyal to her, because something as electrifying as MOTHER'S FINEST only exists once.
