Description: Original CDV photo of the Schermerhorn children, August "Gussie", born January 12, 1860, Mary Emily "Amia", born August 22, 1861, and Lydia, born March 3, 1863. The children are looking very sad, and I think I know why.. their mother, Mary Emily Marsh Schermerhorn, died on October 1, 1865, two months to the day that this photo was taken. On the back is a Civil War revenue stamp, with a handwritten cancellation date of December 1st, 1865, along with the photographer's studio imprint, Mrs. W.A.
