Description: NATIVE AMERICAN NAVAJO TREE OF LIFE RUG BY RENA BEGAY Navajo weaver Rena Begay made this lovely hand woven rug out of wool. Alluring colors compliment the Tree of Life design. A cornstalk is growing out of a wedding basket. Trees or thistles can also be used instead of the cornstalk. Among the stalks are birds and dragonflies. Neatly woven and well balanced, this magnificent rug would be a great addition to your Native American art or Navajo rug collection. 14 3/8″ wide x 19 7/8″ long Artist card included Traditional weavers raise the sheep and shear, wash, card and spin the wool. They dye the wool with native plants such as lichen, wild walnut, rabbit brush, and also use the wool in its natural colors. Weavers string a homemade loom and then begin weaving at the bottom of the warp. Weaving is done with the weaver sitting on the ground, and they are usually taught how to weave, as well as how to attain their resources, by their mothers. Native American Textile
