Description: Northwood Posies and Pods BEADS Green Bowl threaded base Northwood "Posies and Pods / Beads" Harder To Find In Carnival Glass Green Carnival Glass Bowl with Butterscotch Tones with Spool Threaded Base Eight (8) Ruffles Approximate Dimensions: 8.25" (D) x 3" (H) x 2.75" (Threaded Base D) Made by the Harry C. Northwood Glass Company Wheeling, West Virginia circa 1908 This is an antique, green carnival glass ruffled bowl in the difficult to find Posies and Pods a.k.a. Beads pattern. The pattern is more often found in noniridized glass as pictured on page 97 of the book Harry Northwood: The Wheeling Years 1901-1925 by William Heacock, James, Measell, and Berry Wiggins. The pattern is on the exterior of the bowl. The interior is smooth. The iridescence appears to be a marigold. Marigold iridescence on green glass was called the Alaskan treatment by Mr. Northwood. The effect here is a pretty butterscotchy flavor. Perhaps the most unique feature of this bowl is its base, which is spool threaded. This threading format is also seen in opalescent glass by Jefferson Glass. This bowl is marked on the interior bottom center with the classic Northwood trademark, an underlined N in a circle, ca. 1908. Condition. The bowl is in very good/excellent condition with no flea bites, chips, cracks, or restorations. The iridescence is likewise very good, evenly sprayed, richly applied. There are some very minor and light straw marks (shearing tool marks) and internal air bubbles from manufacturing, which is very common in the hand manufacturing of old carnival and opalescent glass pieces. A very, very pretty piece! And not easy to find in carnival glass. This item is a terrific example of Harry C. Northwood carnival glass. A fine addition to any collection of old carnival and opalescent glass, e.g., Fenton, Dugan, Westmoreland, Jefferson, Millersburg, Imperial, and others.
