ORIGINAL ANTIQUE Imperial Russian Lithograph 1848 Dragoon Guard Regiment Uniform

Description: Hand-colored Lithograph, Russian Military Print showing Senior Officer of the Dragoon Guards Regiment (aka “Life Guard Dragoons”), 1848 – 1855.The lithograph is Number 724 in the series of lithographs illustrating uniforms of the Russian Army from the Reign of Nicholas I (1825- 1855). This is GUARANTEED ORIGINAL Piece printed in Paris in mid-XIX Century (1861-62) – NOT a later reissue or replica! Large format: 12 1/2" by 17" [32 X 43cm], image size: 7 1/8" by 9 ¾" [18 X 25cm]. The lithograph is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. Although well over one hundred and fifty years old, the paper it is printed on shows no signs of brittleness and the colors are “fresh as new.” The paper is slightly tanned on the edges and has mild damp stains at the lower corners and at the lower right margin. Thera are also a couple of very small tears to the right margin. Unlike many other lithographs from the period, almost no foxing is noticeable. All the minor imperfections in the border area would be covered by a mat when the lithograph is finally framed for display in a living room or a study. Produced in France soon after the conclusion of the Crimean War, this beautifully executed lithograph was printed by the famous Parisian firm of (Joseph) Lemercier and subsequently meticulously hand colored, most likely by artists living in Russia who were able to work from color uniform references and cloth samples not readily available in France.Besides the fact that this is a significant historic document in and of itself, it represents a rare and uniquely affordable opportunity for the collector of items related to the Russian Empire to own and display at home original nineteenth century artwork.FREE SHIPPING (USPS Priority Mail) WITHIN USA ONLY!
