Description: This two-postcard lot with real photos (RPPC) shows a summer event taking place on a main street, probably in a west or midwest town between 1907 and 1914. It may be a July 4th parade, and one American flag can be seen on the left edge of one of the postcards. Someone in possession of these postcards in the past wrote "Onawa" on the backside of one of the postcards, as if to suggest that this event might have taken place in Onawa, Iowa. When either postcard is under magnification, one can see a two-story brick building in the background on the far side of the street, and on its second floor there are three narrow white-framed windows on the front of the building. It looks similar to the building in which today a business on the main floor, "Suds-n-Jugs Bar-n-Grill," serves its customers today. I've provided an extra picture in the description (courtesy Google Maps) that shows the alleged building in recent times (the three historic windows are now boarded up). Nevertheless, I (the seller) have had a couple of fellow Ebay enthusiasts (who are familiar with Onawa) contact me and tell me that don't think the pictured town is Onawa. Perhaps another "Ebayer" will see a feature in the pictures that will confirm what town it is... Interestingly, on the right hand side of the postcard showing horse carriages, in the background between two standing figures there's a sign. I would have NEVER seen it with the naked eye, but with a loupe I was able to make out some information... It may read, "Elk Day Wild West" (I'm certain that it reads "Wild West," and I'm less certain about "Elk Day," but that's my prediction). Given that these postcards were from the era of Bill Cody, aka "Buffalo Bill," who was quite popular after being born and growing up in LeClaire, Scott County, Iowa, it's possible that these postcards were capturing a glimpse of an event that celebrated "Wild West" heritage, perhaps promoted by an Elk's Lodge? It's summer in the postcard images-- leaves are on that tree prominent in each postcard image. There's an American flag seen in the upper left corner of one of the images. Very possible that this scene is a July 4th celebration, perhaps with a wild west theme thrown in for good measure-- when else would you typically have a parade in the summertime? In the same postcard that shows the American flag, it's my opinion that the front riders on the horses are women, evidenced by the dress-like or baggy pants-style. The hats look like ladies' style hats, and the hair may suggest the same.I provide free standard shipping in the United States, but you can add $3.00 to your winning bid (and please shoot me a message to let me know) if you want me to set up mail tracking services.
