Very Thick Crystal Glass with typical scratches came with years being in use. Very Clean Private Label movement for a watch of 150 years old! Winds and sets as it should. Runs well and keeps pretty good time, but was not timed for accuracy and reliability, so some service may be needed. In early life, he learned the trade of watchmaking and jeweler, but soon after the completion of his trade, in 1848, he emigrated to America, and on May 8, 1850, married in New York City, Elvina Droz, a native of France, born December 27, 1830, and became a resident of the United States in her minority. Soon after their marriage, they settled in Germantown, Montgomery County, Ohio, where Mr. Axman set up in business and conducted it through life, taking in his sons, who are now four in number.Elgin National Watch Company was founded in 1864, right as the civil war was coming to an end. The first watch Elgin was finished in April of 1867 and over the next 100 years, they went on to produce about 60 million mechanical watches.
