This lens is in excellent condition. The zoom and focus rings move very smoothly. There is no haze or fungus. It has always been protected by a UV filter so the glass is great. This is a late model of this lens that was made for over a decade by Tamron. It is significantly better than the early versions due to low dispersion glass and aspherical elements. It's a great, compact all purpose lens! Incorporating revolutionary optics, the AF 28-200mm achieves superior image quality and compactness in the same zoom lens. XR Glass bends light more than normal or lower refractive index glasses, which makes the length of the whole optical system shorter. In addition, optical power is enhanced with three aspherical lenses, each of which do the job of several lenses combined, to reduce and eliminate aberration in the shortened optical configuration. Key to the perfection of the lens was the development of the 'moving triple cam' – the mechanism that helps the lens achieve rock-solid stability during the radical barrel movement between the retracted 28mm position to the extended 200mm position. This remarkable mechanism transforms the conventional fixed triplecam into a moving unit that slides in conjunction with zooming action. Tamron has achieved a 25% reduction in size and a 27%reduction in weight over the previous model (Model 371D), along with a two-steps smaller filter diameter of 62mm.
