Description: This listing is for the original old print that you see in the photos. I purchased it at an estate sale in Oregon where I was not told its history. It appears to be hand colored. I have not found another original example of this print on the internet so I am guessing that it is scarce if not rare. A description of the print that I found on the internet reads: No. 183. Below the title: 'A Ruseio Dutch Game'. [The letters 'io' in 'Ruseio' are smaller than the others.] The Powers of Europe sit on the ground, concealing the slipper for which Leopold, standing up, is hunting. The centre figure is Holland, a hugely fat Dutchman in back view, with spherical posterior. Russia, Austria, and Prussia on his left all wear military uniform and seem to be represented by their respective sovereigns. Russia, leaning past Prussia, pokes the slipper into the pocket which Holland holds open. Prussia: 'Il faut le tranquilliser!' Austria, facing Prussia, and with a finger to his nose, says, 'Ou plutot protocolliser!' Russia adds 'Si non Polonaiser!!' Leopold, the new King of the Belgians, leans reproachfully towards Palmerston and Talleyrand (representing England and France) who sit together on the right. He says: 'Ah! Messieurs! On ne jou [sic] pas bon jeu!' Palmerston answers, his hand on his breast, 'Serment non suspecté' [sic]; Talleyrand adds 'Serment Inviolé'. 6 March 1832.I am assuming that the above description is reasonably correct. The print is signed HB. Some research tells me that is a signature of John Doyle. Print in the margins of the print read: HB Sketches no 183, Hunt the the Slipper or Cherche Qui Peut, Printe by Meifred, Lemercier & Co 24 Leicester Sq.,Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, March 6, 1832'.The print is behind reflection inhibiting glass. The frame measures close to 20 3/4 by 15 1/4 by 3/4 inches. The print measures close to 14 3/4 by 9 1/4 inches. I am guessing that the frame is from the 1960's or 1970's.The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The frame feels sturdy. There is some wear to the finish on the frame. The print looks like it is glued or mounted at the corners. The paper looks slightly distorted at those corners. I have not examined it out of the frame so in that respect it is being sold "as is" and as described. There is a short tear in the margin of the print along the left hand edge. There is some damage in the upper left hand corner that looks like a tear and some repair. It looks like a tiny bit of paper is missing in the middle of the tear. Otherwise, this print and frame are generally fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of their general condition. I guarantee this print to be as described and represented by the photos. The photos are part of the description; please look at all of them. I allow three business days for shipping, but I usually ship the same or next day if possible. Please note that the lighting in my photos is uneven, and there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors; different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs "approximately" because no measurements are exact, and some things are difficult to measure.I like to leave feedback after I know that the item has arrived and that the buyer is satisfied. I reserve the right to cancel any bids without explanation. I sometimes purchase signature delivery for my more valuable packages because of the possibility of them being stolen off of a porch or damaged by weather. I often, but not always, ship the same or next day. Often, I have a double-walled box custom made for larger items, which might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually made from biodegradable materials. Please email me with any questions or suggestions. I do not ship on weekends, and I might not be available to answer emails on weekends.
