Description: A rare map published by E. S. Mittler und Sohn, Berlin and lithographed by the LIthography Institute of Wilhelm Greve, Berlin for the Siege of Paris in 1870/71 during the Franco Prussian War. This action ended the war and led to the secession of the Alsace-Lorraine provinces to Germany which became a large factor in the advent of WW1 years later. Quote "E.S. Mittler und Sohn thus became the main publishing house for military history and literature, and printed the instructions and journals of the armed forces. Although this part of the production of the publisher made less than half of the publications, the company's success was closely tied to the political development of Germany." Dated 1871 in the upper left corner and (Kochstr. 68/71) in the lower left corner. It is fold-able for easy carrying by the troops or officers. You can see the fortifications, forts and outlines of major Royal palaces, government buildings and the like outlined on the map, and the inner section, or main proper of Paris is divided into districts within the main fortification of the city and shown on the legend on the front of the folded map. Versailles is shown in the lower left corner. Measures about 6 5/8 x 4 7/8 inches folded, so about 26.5 x 29 inches extended out. H14
