Description: This little gem somehow found its way to Utah from New York in the 1890’s. What a rich history: The Mohicans were the first to explore the riches of the Shaker Swamp. The Native Americans shared their knowledge of herbs with the Mount Lebanon Shakers and other early settlers. In 1824, in New Lebanon, N.Y., Elam Tilden established Tilden and Company, which became the first pharmaceutical company in the United States. The company drew on this healing knowledge to produce herbal medicines on an industrial level. The swamp and the woods around it served as the habitat for some 79 species of medicinal herbs and remains a habitat for numerous plants used in the historical herbal medicine industries. This bottle is 4” high and 1 ¼” square. The front has a wonderful, embossed logo surrounded with a circular embossing “Tilden & Co New York” with some great bubbles above and just under the D. The bottle is not consistently poured, and the lip is uneven which is indicative of the 1890s. It is in dug condition and has some haze inside and out and is just starting to turn a sun-colored amethyst. There are no chips or cracks.
