John was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992 and he is a member of both the NFL 75th and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams. He was the first President of the NFL Players Association and he passed away in 2011 at the age of 69. It was later determined that he suffered from CTE.
