Rare Songbook Gospel Hymns 1883 sold by Watchtower Jehovah Source Poems of Dawn!

Description: Here is a RARE Songbook entitled Gospel Hymns Consolidated 1, 2, 3, 4 copyrighted in 1883 and was sold by Watchtower in 1891. Please see one of my pictures to read the Announcement in the January 1891 Watchtower of the sale of this songbook by Watchtower. Its interesting to note that in the announcement for the Gospel Hymns Consolidated 1, 2, 3, 4 it mentions that "many already have these" so this Gospel Hymns Consolidated would have been a book that the Brothers would have had at that time! The Poems and Hymns of Dawn printed in 1890 by Watchtower in the Introduction lists the Gospel Hymns Consolidated songbook as providing the hymns and tunes (music) for some of the songs found in the Poems and Hymns of Dawn! So this Gospel Hymns Consolidated book is a very nice book to add to your collection! What is also interesting is that some of the hymns from Gospel Hymns Consolidated 1, 2, 3, 4 also appear in the Poems and Hymns of Dawn songbook by Watchtower printed in 1890 by Watchtower. Did Brother Russell just copy and paste all of these religious songs from Gospel Hymns Consolidated into the Poems and Hymns of Dawn? This question is answered in the Introduction to the Poems and Hymns of Dawn on page 5 where it says " While some of these poems have been altered somewhat to bring them into full harmony with the yet clearer light of the "harvest" time...." So lets compare a few examples and you can enjoy seeing a few of the many changes that Brother C. T. Russell made. Examples of changes to the hymns: If you look at the picture of the song entitled Shall We Meet and compare it with the Poems of Dawn song with the same name (song 262) on page 411 - 412 you see a number of changes between the two songs. So did Brother Russell change the song? Some of these changes include: Notice please stanza 2 in the Poems of Dawn is a new stanza possibly by Brother Russell which says: Just beyond the time of trouble, When our King has gained control Dawns the glorious, bright forever, Which shall gladden every soul, We shall meet, we shall meet, We shall meet beyond the trouble; We shall meet beyond the trouble, When its surges cease to roll Notice please stanza 4 in the Poems of Dawn is a new stanza possibly by Brother Russell which says: O that glorious heav'nly city! O that New Jerusalem! How 'twill shine in all its beauty! 'Twill be gorgeous as a gem. We shall meet, we shall meet, We shall meet in that fair city; We shall meet in that fair city - We shall meet in New Jerusalem. Then please examine stanza 5 which is a new stanza possibly by Brother Russell which says: We shall meet our loved and lost ones, When the surges cease to roll; Sin and death, and every evil, Then shall yield to Christ's control. We shall meet, we shall meet, We shall meet beyond all trouble; We shall meet beyond all trouble, When its surges cease to roll Note: I think this new stanza that appears to be by Brother Russell is very beautiful, what do you think? If you look at the picture of the hymn (song) entitled Christ Is Coming on page 309 of the Gospel Hymns Consolidated and compare it with song 30 in the rare Poems and Hymns of Dawn entitled Christ Is Come you will see it appears that Brother Russell has rewriteen this song ! Please look at the changes for yourself. If you look at the picture of the hymn (song) entitled What Hast Thou Done for Me? on page 23 of the Gospel Hymns Consolidated and compare it with song 28 in the rare Poems and Hymns of Dawn entitled All to Thee you will see it appears that Brother Russell has rewriteen this song to be a lot clearer! ! There is some wear, watermarking and ageing to the covers and spine and edges of the pages but not much. A few margins have been repaired using clear archival tape. There are a couple old former owners names on the endsheets. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description. Otherwise the pages are SUPER CLEAN!
