Description: E.F. Johnson Model 242-8655 two way mobile radio for use in the 900MHz band. These are capable of 30-35 watts output on TX. These are un-modified commercial radios, which can be easily converted from LTR Trunked operation to Conventional operation in the 902-927MHz Amateur Radio segment of the band. The conversion is easily done by replacing a socketed CPU and possibly one small chip capacitor. The CPU replacement is available from Pete (N2MCI) for under $20 shipped. Instructions are available from several websites, with the best links found on the repeater-builder site by searching for the radio model number above. This is an amazing project radio due to the relatively high power output from the stock final PA. We have managed to get as much as 38 watts out of a few of the conversions that we have done in-house. We can provide a URL for the programming software used to program both repeater and Simplex frequencies into the radio, after the sale. Depending on our backlog and our on-hand CPU inventory, we may have a radio that has already had the CPU replaced. AND If you are looking for a radio that has already been converted and you are uncomfortable with programming the radio yourself, we may also be able to assist with programming. This is far more involved as you will need to specify the repeater frequency pairs (with CTCSS/DCS codes) and also any simplex frequencies that you will need programmed into the radio.
