Description: This piece is a great iconic ballet rehearsal piece by Rhoda Yanow. This particular piece has resided and been shown by two galleries according to the tags on the verso--see photos #3,4. It appears contemporaneous to a number of pastel paintings that are offered for sale on this site--my guess is the 1980s. Ballet rehearsal pastels are one of Yanow's most coveted and popular subjects. What sets this apart is that it is a small oil painting. The "Contemporary Southwest Galleries" label has the title of the piece, the materials used listed as well as a price of $1800. This is in line with the prices she commands in retail settings. This piece is from her estate. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Rhoda Yanow is an accomplished New Jersey artist with membership in numerous art societies including: American Women Artists Allied Artist of America Pastel Society of America Degas Pastel Society New Jersey Watercolor Society Artists Fellowship Audobon Artists American Artists Professional League She was born in Newark and studied at Parsons School of Design as well as the National Academy of Design. She has taught at DuCret School of Art, the Newark Museum, The Pastel Society of America, and the Degas Pastel Society of America School.
