Description: Rolex Air King, Oyster perpetual, 1966 according to the receipt but older according to the serial number. In excellent condition, all original except the strap which is quality leather. Included is the box, the guarantee certificate, receipt and a repair docket dated 1989. All original from the time of purchase. The dial, hands and index markers are near mint with hardly a hint of ageing but what there is adds to the character. The perspex glass is original. It has been polished and presents beautifully. The Rolex, in-house 1530 automatic wind movement shows some aging but this has absolutely no bearing or effect on performance. Service history is unknown but I tested it on an automatic watch winder for about 3 weeks and it runs very strongly. About vintage mechanical watches: A vintage mechanical watch will not perform like a modern quartz (electronic) watch. Also, with age comes fragility and it may no longer be ideal as a daily wearer. It should be treated for what it is, something old, classical and special. Treat it as you would a vintage car - not ideal to use as a “daily driver”. Keep it in the condition at which you bought it and it will hold or, indeed, increase its value. Use it every day and it will go backwards. About Me: I am a born again watchmaker! I finished my apprenticeship in 1973 having completed technical training at the RMIT, Melbourne. In 1977 I went into retail (jewellery and watches). In the mid 90’s I realised that the watches that once were common had become rare and I began to appreciate their beauty both in style and mechanically. That’s when I started collecting classics. When covid hit in 2020, I retired from retail, set up a workshop at home, regained my skills and am now restoring classics with a passion.
