Description: RARE REAGAN AUTOGRAPHED HISTORIC USSR NUCLEAR MISSILE TREATY POSTER SIGNED AS PRESIDENT! 40th President of the United States RONALD REAGAN exceptional, hand-signed oversized Russia news poster – AUTOGRAPHED AS PRESIDENT. The poster depicts Reagan and Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev signing the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. Reagan signs the poster in black marker at the upper left at the request of his boyhood friend, Bill Thompson, from Reagan's hometown of Dixon, ILL. Thompson played a key role in the restoration of Reagan's boyhood home, where this poster was expected to be displayed. A handwritten note indicates that this was signed by Reagan on December 15th, 1988. An excellent piece commemorating one of the largest policy successes of Reagan's administration. Thompson explained that visiting Soviet "Mayor Kartamyshev presented me with this poster when he visited our home + the Reagan Room – it is one of the most popular posters in Russia..." and asks "Dutch" Reagan to autograph it and return it to him. Thompson notes in pencil that the poster was signed "Dec 15th, 1988" one month before Reagan left office. On December 8, 1987, President Reagan and General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev signed a historic document, the Treaty Between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the Elimination of Their Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles, commonly referred to as the INF treaty. Under this agreement, for the first time in history an entire class of U.S. and Soviet nuclear missiles would be eliminated.
