Live Outtakes from Massey Hall 1976!Originally released in 1976, Rush’s epic, landmark release 2112 was their creative and commercial breakthrough as well as one of the band’s most highly regarded releases among both fans and critics alike. With lyrics written by Neil Peart, 2112 kicks off with the ambitious seven-suite title track set in a futuristic world run by the “Priests of the Temples of Syrinx” who determine the content of all reading matter, songs, pictures – every facet of life.Rush/2112 40th Anniversary Edition features extensive liner notes by renowned rock historian Rob Bowman, and newly designed artwork by longtime Rush art director Hugh Syme. The set’s rare recordings include “Solar Federation,” spotlighting the isolated Neil Peart vocals that close the song “2112” in “Grand Finale,” two outtakes from the 1976 Massey Hall concerts including “Something For Nothing” and a nearly complete 15+ minute performance of “2112,” as well as a recently-rediscovered live version of the album track “The Twilight Zone,” which has only been performed twice in the band’s long history. The epic 2112 album which guitarist Alex Lifeson described as “the first record where we sounded like Rush,” is widely regarded as a crucial landmark in Rush’s body of work. Although it was the band’s fourth album, it’s generally considered to be the one on which the band’s epic sound and ambitious conceptual approach blossomed. Resisting record-company pressure to focus on shorter, more radio-friendly songs, the band stuck to its guns and constructed the album’s seminal seven-part, 20-minute title piece, a conceptual suite set in a dystopian future.40th Anniversary 200g 3LP Edition features a unique Starman turntable mat, a special laser-etched LP side, the 2015 hologram on 2112's side B, rare live outtakes from the '76 Massey Hall shows, additional unreleased material and newly-recorded tracks from 2112 by Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nick Raskulinecz, Alice In Chains and more.Features:• 40th Anniversary Edition• 200 Gram Audiophile 3LP Set• 5 newly recorded covers from Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nick Raskulinecz, Billy Talent, Steven Wilson, Alice In Chains & Jacob Moon.• Live Outtakes from Massey Hall 1976• New Artwork by Hugh Syme• Liner Notes by Rock Historian Rob Bowman • Red Star Vinyl Hologram• Red Star + Circuit Board Vinyl Etching• Starman Turntable Record Mat • Limited Time Digital Download Card featuring 320kbps AAC MP4s (expires 12/31/18)• Gatefold JacketSelections: Side 1: "2112"1. LPs two and three are loaded with unreleased bonus live tracks from three stops on the Permanent Waves World Tour 1980: Manchester Apollo, Manchester, England; Hammersmith Odeon, London, England; and Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, Missouri, all newly mixed by the band's longtime producer Terry Brown.Permanent Waves is the band's first departure from in-depth, ten-minute plus conceptual song crafting and is deemed as a poignant moment they reinvented themselves and their sound. "We've taken it (the conceptual album) to its logical limit and it's time to do something else," remarked Geddy Lee. To further reinvent themselves, the band opted to record at Le Studio in Quebec which has been highly credited in the evolution of the Rush sound and would soon become their home away from home for future albums to come. Giving birth to two of the band's most important songs in their stable, "The Spirit Of Radio" along with "Freewill" offered fans a long overdue experience: regular radio play. Additionally, the album features the cinematic "Jacob's Ladder," the album's third single "Entre Nous", the Geddy Lee lyric penned "Different Strings" and the barometer for pure progressive rock "Natural Science". Extras include a booklet with new Hugh Syme illustrations & liner notes by Kim Thayil, Les Claypool, Taylor Hawkins, Bill Kelliher and Neil Sanderson. On Seventies albums like 2112 and Hemispheres, Rush mastered the high-prog epic. Moving Pictures was the record where they proved they could say as much in four minutes as they previously had in 20. Songs like 'Tom Sawyer,' 'Limelight,' and the Police-like 'Vital Signs' showcased the trio's superhuman chops in a radio-ready framework, while more adventurous tracks like the Morse code-inspired instrumental 'YYZ' and the synth-heavy suite 'The Camera Eye' found them tastefully streamlining their wildest ideas. Said Geddy Lee, 'We learned it's not so easy to write something simple.'-Rolling Stone, The 500 Greatest Albums of All TimeThanks to its tautness, conceptual integrity, and the fortuitous manner in which their career ambitions and radio programmer taste intersected, Moving Pictures functioned as much a harbinger of a new artistic era as David Bowie's Young Americans...Best, Rush was constitutionally incapable of cynicism. 'Alienation is the craze,' sang the Cars two years earlier, sounding neither crazy nor alienated but arch; 'Put aside the alienation,' Neil Peart countered on 'Limelight.' Optimism without sentimentality? In this biz? For a couple of hours, this Moving Pictures package envisages a world of love and light.-Alfred Soto, PitchforkFeatures40th Anniversary Deluxe 5LP Box SetCut via Half-Speed Direct-To-Metal Mastering for the First Time Ever180g Audiophile VinylLP1 - Original AlbumLP2-LP5 - Complete, Previously Unreleased Toronto Concert24-page BookletDesigned by Hugh Syme with unreleased illustrations & photosLiner Notes by Kim Thayil, Les Claypool, Taylor Hawkins, Bill Kelliher & Neil SandersonSlipcaseMade in the Czech RepublicSelectionsMoving PicturesSIDE ONE:Tom SawyerRed BarchettaYYZLimelightSIDE TWO:The Camera EyeWitch HuntVital SignsLive In YYZ 1981 (Previously Unreleased)SIDE THREE:2112 - Overture2112 - The Temples Of SyrinxFreewillLimelightSIDE FOUR:Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres - PreludeBeneath, Between & BehindThe Camera EyeSIDE FIVE:YYZBroon's BaneThe TreesSIDE SIX:XanaduThe Spirit Of RadioSIDE SEVEN:Red BarchettaCloser To The HeartTom SawyerSIDE EIGHT:Vital SignsNatural ScienceSIDE NINE:Working Man / Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres - Armageddon: The Battle Of Heart And Mind / By-Tor & The Snow Dog / In The End / In The Mood / 2112 - Grand FinaleSIDE TEN: La Villa StrangiatoPLUS SOME RUSH LIVE Rush Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITIOM 4LP Set - First Time On Vinyl In Its Entirety! The Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers' Live Album Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland On Vinyl For The First Time In Its EntiretyIn 2010, Rush took a break from recording what would become the band's final studio album Clockwork Angels to launch its Time Machine Tour. During that tour, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers recorded their April 15, 2011 performance in Cleveland. It was a fitting tribute to the city, which was the first to play Rush's music on the radio. That epic concert was released on CD in 2011, but the full show has never come out on vinyl, until now... and not just any ole vinyl, but 180g Vinyl 4LP Set!The Time Machine Tour was a fan favorite thanks in part to the tour's incredible set list, which encompassed songs from the group's entire career. Another reason is that Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart did something during these shows that they'd never done before, which was to play their quadruple-platinum album Moving Pictures (1981) in its entirety. It remains the band's best-selling record in the United States where it reached #3 on the album chart. In the band's native Canada, it hit #1. In addition to the singles "Limelight", "Tom Sawyer" and "Vital Signs", Moving Pictures also earned the band a Grammy nomination for the instrumental track "YYZ". Named for the airport code in Toronto, the song's rhythm is based on the letters Y-Y-Z played in Morse code.TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND covers a lot of musical ground over 26 tracks. Rush's early days are represented by songs like "Working Man" from the trio's 1974 self-titled debut, "2112 Overture' from the 1976 classic 2112, and "Closer To The Heart" from A Farewell To Kings (1977). The group's fantastic output from the 1980s gets its due with performances of "Subdivisions" (Signals, 1982), "Marathon" (Power Windows, 1985), "Time Stand Still" (Hold Your Fire, 1987) and the title track from 1989's Presto. During the concert, Rush also showcased its most recent work - 2007's Snakes & Arrows - by playing three songs from that album: "Far Cry", "Workin' Them Angels" and "Faithless". The band also took the opportunity to treat fans to a preview of "Caravan" and "BU2B", two songs that would eventually appear on Clockwork Angels (2012), the band's nineteenth, and final, studio album.Features:• 180g Vinyl• 4LP Set• Full concert available on vinyl for the very first time• Printed in Canada• Limited time download card IF STILL AVAILABLESelections:Side A:1. The band released a video of the same name, originally released on VHS and laserdisc, the same year. DVD versions were later released in 2006 and 2007. The album was recorded in Birmingham (UK), New Orleans, Phoenix, and San Diego during the 1988 Hold Your Fire tour as well as in the Meadowlands (East Rutherford, NJ) during the 1986 Power Windows tour.It was during this era that Jim Burgess of Saved By Technology convinced Geddy that the complexities of a Rush studio recording could be recreated live. Offstage, someone set up the samples for the songs, but Geddy would trigger them himself."The inspired A Show of Hands is an excellent snapshot of Rush in concert during the mid- to late '80s." -Greg Prato, allmusic.comFeatures:• 200g Vinyl• Double LP• Pressed at Quality Record Pressings!• Direct Metal Mastered at Abbey Road Studios• Limited time digital download codeMusicians:Geddy Lee, bass, synthesizers, vocalsAlex Lifeson, guitar, synthesizers, backing vocalsNeil Peart, acoustic and electric percussionSelections: LP 1 Side A:1. Throughout the years 2014 and 2015, Rush celebrate their 40th anniversary with vinyl reissues of albums from their Mercury era.Hold Your Fire is Rush’s 12th studio album, released on September 8, 1987. It was recorded at The Manor Studio in Oxfordshire, Ridge Farm Studio in Surrey, AIR Studios in Montserrat and McClear Place in Toronto, with sessions spread out over a relatively long period of time. Although Hold Your Fire features nearly as much synth/keyboards as its predecessor, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire’s guitar riffs and solos are considerably more prominent on several songs.During the writing stages for the album, with nine songs written, producer Peter Collins also suggested the band make a tenth track for the album. The song “Force Ten” was written on the last day of pre-production, December 14, 1986. Another track on the album, “Time Stand Still,” was the first track Neil wrote. Aimee Mann briefly sings in each chorus of the song, marking Rush’s first collaboration with another singer."...gradually draws in the listener by slowly revealing its nuances and secrets...Geddy Lee employs lush textures which, when coupled with a greater rhythmic and melodic presence from guitarist Alex Lifeson, results in a far warmer sound than in recent efforts...drummer Neil Peart is as inventive and exciting as ever...Rush always seem to produce some of their best work at the end of each four-album cycle, and Hold Your Fire is no exception." -Eduardo Rivadavia, allmusicFeatures:• 200g Vinyl• Pressed at Quality Record Pressings• Direct Metal Mastered at Abbey Road Studios• Limited time digital download codeMusicians:Geddy Lee, bass, synthesizers, bass pedals, vocalsAlex Lifeson, electric guitar, acoustic guitarNeil Peart, drums, percussion, electronic percussionSelections:Side A:1.
