Description: Framed caricature of "Freddie Frith" by Sallon of the "Daily Mirror" The text under the picture reads as follows:- Grimsby's greatest contribution to road racing, FREDDIE FRITH leamt his craft on the East Midlands short circuits before winning the Junior Manx Grand Prix and finishing second in the Senior in 1935. A member of the Norton team for the following year, he won the 1937 Senior T.T. and recorded the first over-90 m.p.h. lap of the "Mountain" circuit. After two very successful years on Velocettes he won the 1949 350 c.c. World Championship, and received the O.B.E. in 1950, the year he retired. This picture is from a set of cartoons commissioned by Shell-Mex and BP Ltd. to mark the 50th anniversary of the Isle of Man TT races in May 1957.
