Description: I have for sale a commemorative medal for the Second Pan-American Scientific Congress that was held in Washington, D.C.. The congress was attended by delegations from the 21 republics of the western hemisphere and Canada. During the congress all phases of science and technology were discussed, such as, history and anthropology, physical and mathematical science, mining, metallurgy, geology and applied chemistry, engineering, medicine, biology, agriculture and zootechnics, private, public & international law, economics and sociology, education. The first congress was held in Santiago, Chile from 12/25/1908-01/06/1909. The medal is bronze, it is two inches in diameter and in uncirculated condition. One side shows two standing figures with raised arms and one is holding a medical symbol and the other a branch. Between the figures it shows North and South American and a building. At the rim it reads FRIENDSHIP SOLIDARITY AND PROGRESS THROUGH SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENT. On the other side it shows an oil lamp and branch, and it reads, SECOND - PAN-AMERICAN - SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS - DEC. 27, 1915 - JAN. 8, 1916 - WASHINGTON - U.S.A.
