Hitherto available only on cassetteThis CD-R, which is one of five remastered reissues of Shusha recordings from Sharrow Records, includes a twelve-page booklet, with extensive notes by Liz Thomson about Shusha and the songs.About the ArtistShusha was born in Tehran in 1935. She commenced performing when she was a student in Paris in the 1950s. To her initial repertoire of Persian folk songs she added French chansons and, after moving to England in the 1960s, contemporary songs in English, including several of her own compositions. She married in 1961 and settled in London.She rose to prominence and recorded extensively in the 1970s, including three albums for United Artists who promoted her widely, with tours of Britain and other European countries. She continued to perform and record throughout the following two decades, during which time she became better known, under the name Shusha Guppy, as a writer and journalist. She was London Editor of Paris Review and the author of several books.Her final recordings were issued in 1995.
