The game features 20 levels of gameplay, with each level set in a different environment, such as space stations, asteroids, and planets. The Silpheed can freely move about the screen, and the players mission is to destroy various enemies while avoiding their projectiles. The game introduces the concept of sectional damage, where the ship can take multiple hits before being destroyed, and certain sections of the ship can be damaged independently, affecting its performance. Weapon System The Silpheed starts with two straight shot lasers and can acquire additional weapons, such as the phalanx gun or V shot, by collecting power-ups. However, the weapon system is relatively simple compared to other shooters of the time. Graphics and Sound Silpheed features 3D polygonal graphics on a tilted third-person backdrop in its original PC-8801 version, while the Sega CD port uses pre-rendered computer animation as a full-motion video background.
