With Sub-Mariner finally making his MCU debut in the Black Panther/Wakanda Forever movie, the demand for these old Silver Age issues will only continue to grow, so get your copies now! I've had this book for decades, and it was well-cared for, stored away virtually undisturbed in all that time. Before offering it for sale, I carefully took the time to eyeball each page to make sure there was nothing obvious hiding in there that might otherwise be missed. Here is the generally-accepted description of a VF comic book (as you can find on multiple online grading websites): 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. (I include this description so you can refer to it while following along with my observations below.) Surfaceflat, mostly clean, shiny like a brand new copy, and with the exception of a couple of spine dimples, about as smooth as you're likely to find on a book that's this old.Edge Wear"minimal surface wear" as indicated above, is about right here. Bottom edge is largely the extent of it, on both front and back -- and that's very minor.Overall Wearagain, minor -- it's a book that seems to have been lightly handled and has survived the decades quite well.Folds/CreasesI see none on front, bottom-left corner on back is about as close to a faint curl as you'll find, and it's so faint, it doesn't show in photos.Wrinklinggood luck finding any, the spine dimples notwithstanding (see below)Cornersever-so-slightly bluntedPrinting DefectsnoneArrival StampsnoneSpineyou can see the book was lightly read and has that "minor color break" mentioned above -- more than one, which is why I dropped it below VF. The close-up, in-your-face side photos show this is very minor wear. There are a couple of dimples here that cause the spine to not be perfectly tight.Spine Rollabsolutely noneTears/SplitsnoneStaplesnot shiny anymore, but hardly discolored, I'd say, and both look good and go all the way through to the centerfold.Back coverA great overall, and even still shiny back cover, somewhat faded and not as white as it must have been a half-century ago, and the spine edge shows some minor wear also (another reason I went with VF-). But almost no surface build-up -- this one was obviously stored properly early in its life.SmudgesHolding the book up to the light, I see only a couple of faint ones near mid-center of back spine (too faint to show in photos)Surface build-upalmost none, perhaps a stray speck here or there. The top front shows a couple of visible specks.Inner coverslight Silver Age tanning, but clean.Page coloroff-white, even hinting at white here or therePage conditionexcellent with no sign of brittleness; everything seems well attachedBOTTOM LINEA great copy and absolutely upper-mid-grade. Most sellers would put this at VF anyway, and maybe I could get away with that because, dang, it's very nice, but being a little more harsh in my evaluation, I think it falls just short of the VF description above I think due to the spine dimples, but make no mistake -- it's an excellent copy that presents very nicely in its bag and board and is as shiny and smooth, almost like a new copy. It should not disappoint, even if it's no longer technically "high" grade. Do your research and find the other copies listed out there that claim that they're around this condition, and you'll often find copies that are clearly more worn or wrinkled than this one, or they give you two pictures only and don't even take the time to describe the book, so you're left with no idea of what you're getting, so how on earth would you even know? See what they're asking, and you'll find that this copy is competitively priced. Where do you get more details or camera angles than what I've provided? ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE! Look at my feedback and you'll see "item as described" posted over and over again! I cannot believe other sellers expect you to make a purchase decision with just one or two photos -- ridiculous -- you always see what you're getting from me!
