It does steam out of the top. We just kept using it anyway, because it worked anyway so why not. We did take a little video and sent it to Terra Kaffe and they said it was just overheating. We took the top panel off and the steam would come out of the copper pipe I think. I want to be clear: I am not a mechanic, I'm not an engineer, I'm not handy in that way so I'm literally just doing the best I can here in describing it as well as I can, but it needs to be taken with something of a grain of salt since I'm not an engineer and we didn't end up sending it in to Terra Kaffe. That's what it did, that's what Terra Kaffe said, so that's all that I know. But it should also be noted that we never sent it in to them so that's just what they thought but obviously it could very well have had a more extensive analysis / diagnosis if they had it in there possession. But again, as I said, we just kept using it anyway because it worked any way so why not. The only reason I am selling it is because we took the plunge and bought the new TK-02 model so we don't need this. Also the milk frother thing obviously shows some wear but, not a big deal. Purely cosmetic. But it is still present along with the tube. I also wanna say something else: I saw another one of these on eBay that was stained on the top panel exactly where ours slightly is, only theirs was worse — both in staining and warping, yet their listing doesn't say anything about the overheating / steaming thing. ALSO, a close friend of ours has this same model (TK-01) and theirs does this exact thing I'm talking about as well. Exact thing to a T. So I wonder if this is actually just a totally normal thing but no one else is detailing it in their listings because it's just so common(?) I don't know and I'm not saying that, just thinking out loud. At any rate it's clearly a common thing among these. But either way I want to be clear to detail it as I always describe everything single thing that I can so my buyers know exactly what they're getting. To that end, this may help as well: this isn't some item I picked up at a yard sale or estate sale. This is our own and we took care of it to the best of our ability. My wife cleaned it, where the coffee grounds deposit, all the time. I am selling this as working but also "as-is" in reference to the steaming thing that happens out of the top. So, whatever that condition means. It does work but it's not perfect and could use a tune-up or something with respect to the "overheating" and the "steaming". That being said: this is a truly great machine and it served us so well. We absolutely loved it and still love it. Anyone who wants a machine with these capabilities but doesn't want to spend $1,600 well... here is an opportunity for you. ALSO — IMPORTANT TO NOTE: I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL BOX / ORIGINAL CUSTOM-CUT FACTORY FOAM THAT THE MACHINE FITS IN SO SHIPPING WILL BE A BREEZE! I know how to ship things safely anyway as I do this for a living, but having the original factory cut foam along with its original commercial grade box is a bonus! So just know those things are still present and will be used for shipping. If all of that makes sense and the condition sounds agreeable to you, then this is the deal for you! Also, I'd like to point out that if you are a handy person and an engineer type, you may very well be able to fix it yourself. When we talked to Terra Kaffe they did not seem to be intimidated by the situation. They said they could fix it. We just thought about it for awhile and decided to take the plunge on the newer model.
