NY: The Arundel Printing & Pub. Co., 1879. The “Arundel Poets” Complete Edition. First Edition. Has gilt lettering and design on cover and spine, gilt-edged text blocks, Frontispiece of Tennyson with tissue protector, Table of Contents, List of Illustrations (all present), 563 pages. Measures about 5 ¼” x 7.” Hardcover has wear, as seen in photos. Pages are tanned from age, have small creases and tears, light soil spots. Pages are loose in some sections, including first few pages. Last two pages of text have full page shading from a newspaper tucked in between them. Previous owner stamp on first front end paper. A different owner’s inscription “Compliments of Aunty Sophie to Eli Hofeller June 3rd 1881” on another front end paper. Eli Hofeller (1867-1918) was born in Buffalo, New York, and established the Crescent Concrete Company which carried out numerous important works for commercial concerns and municipal corporations, in various parts of the United States and Canada, as well as a number of large railroad and government contracts. Hofeller was a director of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the National Geographic Society and the Lambs Club of New York, among other civic organizations.Note that I have described the book as best as I can.
