The golden couple whose imminent nuptials are about to be celebrated at a waterside estate are Lila (a miscast Anna Paquin), a brusque, staunchly upbeat blonde, and Tom (Josh Duhamel), a handsome scholar and athlete whose self-assurance conceals an ambivalence bordering on panic. Lila and Tom are the center of a clique of seven Harvard friends who reconvene for the wedding rehearsal and dinner, at which they get plastered and say and do indiscreet things. As the wedding-eve festivities become more raucous, the groom goes for a swim and disappears, and the guests break up into tipsy search parties. Friends and family convene at a beach house for the wedding of Lila and Tom. But things don't go swimmingly, mainly because of one thing that Lila and her maid of honor, Laura, have in common - Tom, the groom.
