As you light the charcoal, it's important to remember the block will stay very hot for about two hours - allowing you to add the resins, as you wish, over time. The best way to light the block is to hold it with the tweezers and light its edge. It may take a few seconds to light, but when it does it will sizzle. When it stops sizzling place the block indented side up in the burner (you can add sand to the burner). Add small pinches of resin - relax and enjoy.
