Description: This is a Heavy Antique Iron Bucket with Riveted Sides. This unique bucket appears to be hand wrought. It was purchased on our most recent annual antique buying trip to England in 2019. No provenance was available regarding the age, maker, original, nor whether it was specifically made as a fire bucket or not. We listed it in the fire fighting category as a matter of interest, but we cannot make any specific claim as to whether or not it was originally made as fire bucket.I reviewed a number of antique iron buckets and fire buckets online including a number of high dollar pieces. I saw quite a few that had what appeared to be a hand riveted mounting plate for the handles but I did not come across an iron one with the entire fastening down the side made with what appears to be hand wrought rivets, so I felt that feature alone qualified the bucket to be characterized as quite a unique piece, and bucket appears to be quite old, likely old enough to be formally antique and perhaps quite a bit older still. The handle is made from very heavy steel stock, just under 1/2" in diameter. You can see from the way it is made that the only way the handle made that it appears that the handle may have been inserted through the brackets in the bucket and then hot formed to curl and secure the ends of the handle. There may be something I missed, but that appears to me to be the method of creation. The bucket is about 7 3/8" tall exclusive of the handle, with a 7 1/2" top diameter and a 5 7/8* bottom diameter, each with a formed lip as seen. One side has an area of whitish patina as seen. Based on the rectangular profile of part of this area, I thought perhaps there was originally a paper or metal label that now shows some patination / light oxidation in the area originally occupied by the label, but I do not know if this assessment is accurate or not.We have a variety of other antique and vintage metal and woodenware pieces in our ebay store, including tools and items of architectural salvage.Condition The bucket is a primitie piece but it is overall in excellent condition. The bottom has a slightly non-uniform, wavy surface, possibly another indication of the bucket being hand made.
