Description: The Union Pacific Tea Company (U.P.T.Co)was founded by Robert McBride in 1873. Headquartered in New York City, it was a large importer and wholesale and retail distributor of tea and coffee in the late 1800s and grew to 106 stores at its height.I live in the Rochester, NY area where two U.P.T Co. stores were located, on 94 Main Street and 144 West Main Street.U.P.T Co. was an early competitor of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, founded in 1859. While the U.P.T. Co remained a major player in the tea business, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company expanded and opened its first grocery store in 1912; by the late 1930s, it grew into the biggest grocery retailer in the world with nearly 16,000 stores, known simply as A&P.This hand-blown, prescription lip bottle from the mid to late 1800s is unlike any other I have seen online or at auction sites. (There are other U.P.T Co. bottles available but all have a different lip, manufactured in the early 1900s.)A beautiful bottle in mint condition, clear, free of cracks or chips it is simply embossed on two lines, THE U.P.T. Co./ N.Y. On the same panel is the classic U.P.T.
