This was the actual hockey jersey worn during the Haverford Hawks and Viikingit tournament in 2015 – 2016 season. The jersey is in good used condition. There are a no rips or tears but are a few black marks. See photos and description for more details. Items come from a smoke and pet free home. Below is the USA – Finland Exchange history from the Viikingit website on how the program began: HAVERFORD HAWKS AND VIKINGS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION'S CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM Vikings Ice Hockey Association and the American Haverford Hawks have been collaborating on culture and player exchange for a long time. The first exchange took place in 1999. Over the years, the exchange has become as part of events in clubs and age groups. Teams are fundraising for this exchange. In the United States, a foundation has been set up to support and reward participants in the exchange. The Vikings / Hawks Cultural Exchange originated by chance in 1998 in suburban Philadelphia. Pertti Rinta-Panttila and his family had just moved to Philadelphia, United States, from Helsinki. His son Antti played for the Vikings in Finland and his father was the team's custodian. The family moved to Philadelphia for work. The son of the family, Antti, moved on to play for the Haverford Hawks' Pee Wee team. During the Christmas holiday, Rinta-Panttila's family was a friend of Antti's from Finland. Both played hockey in a local school tournament along with other Hawks players. During the tournament in the stands, Mr. John Wert and Pertti had wondered what if Antti's entire former team from Finland participated in the Hawks' traditional season-end tournament. Pertti and Haverford Hawks chairman John Wert made an invitation to VHS that they sent to Finland for the age group of defectors born in 1986. Just a few months later in the spring of 1999, the Vikings-86 team traveled to the United States for the Joe Moran Memorial tournament as a guest of the Hawks. The pattern of the exchange goes in its simplicity so that the Vikings' D1 age group (13-year-olds) go to Philadelphia as a guest of the Hawks and, respectively, the following year the Hawks' Pee Wee / Bantam group arrives in Finland for their visits to Philadelphia as a guest of the Viking age group. The boys live in the host team families in pairs throughout the trip. The exchange lasts about 10 days and the date is during the US spring break at the turn of March and April. The exchange always culminates in a tournament organized by the host country. The purpose of the exchange is not just to practice and play hockey. Of course, hockey is one big part of the unifying factor in the exchange. Through the exchange, players learn each other's language and become acquainted with the fine culture of two different countries. An additional taste of ice hockey is the cultural difference between North American and European ice hockey, both in terms of rules and customs. However, the most important contribution to the exchange is lasting and new friendships.
