Description: I have for sale a pin back button that commemorates the U.S.S. Battleship Maine. This battleship was commissioned in September of 1895. In January 1898 it was dispatched to Havana, Cuba, to protect U.S. interest. On February 15, 1898 the Maine was sunk in the Havana Harbor, thus contributing to the outbreak of the Spanish-American war in April 1898. The button is 1 3/4 inch in diameter and in a high grade circulated condition. It was made by the George E. Homer Novelties company of Boston & still has the paper ad on the back. The button shows a picture of the Maine with U.S. BATTLESHIP "MAINE". Around the outer edge it has stars and sripes.
