Description: Victorian Cased Cranberry Art Glass Bride's Bowl Ornate Meriden Silverplate Base Description and Item Information Up for sale is this gorgeous Victorian art glass bride's bowl with an ornate Meriden quadruple silverplated base. Please excuse any glare in the photos. The glass bowl has a cranberry pink interior, a milk white exterior, and an amber rim. The rim is crimped and ruffled, and there is a pontil area beneath. The glass bowl measures approximately 4 1/4 inches tall, 10 1/4 inches long, and 8 1/4 inches wide; the base has a diameter of about 3 inches. The Aesthetic Movement-type silverplate holder / base has a poppy flower motif with cicadas. It measures approximately 9 5/8 inches tall, 12 1/4 inches long, and 5 5/8 inches wide. The fitter area where the glass rests on the metal has an interior diameter of about 3 1/2 inches, so it is about 1/2 inch in diameter larger than the bowl's base. The metal base is likely not original to the glass bowl, but they look good together. The overall weight of the bowl with the base is 4 pounds 2.7 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a Victorian decor. Identification The glass is unsigned, and the maker is not known. The silverplate holder is marked beneath, "MERIDEN SILVERPLATE CO. QUADRUPLE PLATE 1579." The exact ages of the glass bowl and the silverplate base are not known, but they are antique. This is from the northern California estate collection of an advanced collector of Victorian decorative arts. Condition The glass looks great overall, with no chips or cracks. It has fine wear scratches. It has some tiny bubbles and smooth extra glass bits, as made. The silverplate base has no breaks. It is bright and shiny overall, with fine scratches. This may have been replated at some point. As noted above, the metal base is likely not original to the glass bowl, but they look good together.
