Both sides are definitely used as each side has a belly in the center. Size is 7x2x1 in inches. If you wish to flatten it can be done, a good machine shop can flatten or you can DIY... This is another old item of my grandfathers that I have kept for years in the shop and never used. He smoked like a chimney I do not, if that makes a difference.
