Description: For Monopoly collectors everywhere, here’s an early Parker Bros. edition, game board dated 1946, cream/white outer box has No. 9 on outside edge, probably purchased new in the late 1940s or early 1950s. One family ownership, game has been in clean, dry storage for at least 50-60 years. Game pieces include: Square 19-1/4 inch game board with pebbly gray back surface and “Monopoly” in gold lettering; two sets of dice, presumably one set original; paper money in seven denominations; 10 original pewter game tokens; 16 yellow Community Chest cards; 16 orange Chance cards; 28 real estate cards; 11 wood red hotels; and 26 wood green houses. Set also comes with additional 12 plastic red hotels and 30 plastic green houses (not original). The Community Chest and Chance cards all have a 1936 copyright date. No instruction booklet included. Seven of the pewter game token designs started with the first Parker Bros. production (1936-37) - the Iron, Top Hat, Boot, Battleship, Race Car, Thimble and Cannon. The remaining three designs in this set date to 1942 - the Scottie Dog, Wheelbarrow, and Rider on Rearing Horse. Game pieces are in good to fair condition for age of the set, normal wear and tear for a well-loved game. Most pieces original. Some of the green wood houses are faded, one red wood hotel has a small nick on side. Four of the real estate cards have some staining. Game board playing surface is worn in the bifold crease. Outer box is very worn, especially at the corners and edges. Corners have all been reinforced with tape. Box also has large stained area on face of cover, as well as other miscellaneous stains and wear marks.
