Vintage 1983 NEW Christy’s Leather Sweatband Gray Playboy Fedora 7-1/4 Stetson

Description: NEW 1983 (read below) CHRISTYS’ of LONDON Gray Playboy (the 1950s Stetson Playboy style with that narrow Grosgrain Ribbon) Styled Fedoras, size 7-1/4 (we know it states 7-3/8 but this was bought in England and that’s the English sizing! Not American, read below).This is NOT their low end type fedoras! This actually was one of their higher end fedoras with an actual leather sweatband!This was bought when my son was in England. That would have been his second trip to England in 1983. This was worn less than a handful of times then stored away. There are NO signs of use! NOTE: we just edited the ad. We thought that he’d bought this in 1990 but after looking at the under tag that is dated 1983 we have edited the listing. See last picture.We don’t know why it still looks like it has dust on it? It does NOT! If you look at the picture looking down on the hat that’s what it actually looks like. It has been cleaned with dad’s Horsehair Brush and is clean. Not the synthetic band you find on their less expensive hats. These were extremely well made!You can see that we filled the picture gallery so you can see every detail on this fedora! This is exactly how it was found! A bit of touch up on shaping by dad and grandson. Just to sharpen up the shape to what you see now in the pictures.We don’t know why it doesn’t come out consistently in all the pictures? But it’s a dark gray color on the whole hat and the best representation is the picture looking down on the top of the hat and the whole underside. The Matching Grosgrain Ribbon is perfect and really makes this Great Fedora appear to be very similar to the Stetson Playboy model of the 1950s.This is a Lightweight fedora. Not the thicker or heavier stock of their high end Beaver hat that they are still selling. We took out dad’s collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver hats: 3X, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive. This was an easy match to the Beaver Ten. It just very thick and soft and easily shaped with steam. It’s also much easier to determine the beaver quality while steam shaping the hat by how easily it shapes. We did compare it to a couple of my son’s Fur Felt hats and this was much softer and as stiff. We did find that CRISTYS’ still makes very high end Beaver hats! These are their most expensive hats that they sell. We found the low end Beaver Hats are no longer sold ( my grandson found nothing on the lower end Beaver hats on the CHRISTYS’ website) but they are still selling their high end Beaver and they cost $650! Those are NOT Pure Beaver either but a high quality Beaver still. The tag states this is a size 7-3/8 but that is the English hat sizing which is different than the American hat sizing standards. Their hat sizes are one size larger than the American hats sizes. We actually measure the hat 3 times to determine the size, tagged or not, and it is and to a perfect 7-1/4 or 22-3/4 inches or 58 which agrees with the Tilley Hat Sizing chart. This is a size 7-1/4 or 22-3/4 inches or 58 Length 12.5 inches Width 11.8 inches Height 4.75 inches, at the tallest point Matching Grosgrain Ribbon 3/8 of an inch Brim 2.15 inches If you have any question please write.
