Vintage 2002 Martin DX-1 (USA) acoustic guitar, HPL sides and back

Description: Martin DX-1 USA, dates to 2002. Solid sitka spruce top with woodgrain HPL back and sides and multi-ply neck. The early-run USA models are relatively uncommon, with production shifted to Mexico after the first couple years. BTW, user reviews indicate the MIM models are of superb quality, and hence an incredible bargain. However, the USA versions clearly hold the price-point advantage and will remain the more desirable in the resale market. Neck-set and bridge attachment are factory flawless, but this guitar had developed a top center seam split. I humidified it back together and stabilized it with an interior cleat. It is very minor now (see pic), and stable. However, keep an eye on your humidity to keep it that way, especially considering this is a satin finish. About 1/3 of the back had also separated from the sides, fortunately totally cleanly. I also reglued this. Close inspection will reveal a couple spots where the seam is not absolutely factor perfect, but you would have to know where to look. BTW, both these issues seem to be pretty common on the DX models… Plays nicely and sounds wonderful. I’ve played quite a few classic Martins, and this guitar sounds great. True, if someone tries to tell you an HPL DX sounds like a Herringbone they’re full of crap. However, this is still a nice guitar, fully worthy of the Martin name. Comes in a softshell (chipboard) case that is very clean. NOTE: USA regulations under the CITES convention (trade in endangered species) have finally been loosened to allow easy international shipping of vintage instruments, unless they contain BRAZILIAN r******d (Dahlbergia nigra). There is no Brazilian on this guitar, so it can now be shipped internationally. UPDATE: Ebay now demands that we sellers give THIRTY DAYS for returns. Any honest buyer will know within a few days whether there is any need for a return. I no longer take returns through Ebay, but I will never "stick" another musician with a guitar.
