Description: Up for bid is an AUTHENTIC BAUSCH & LOMB SPOTTING SCOPE WITH 10 x POWER AND ENCASED IN A PALE GREEN METAL HOUSING (a balscope is a spotting scope). Not only does the FOCUSING MECHANISM on the eyepiece work just fine, but it twists and TURNS WITH EASE. Spotting scopes are most commonly used for hunting, but could certainly be used for other purposes such as SURVEILLANCE, birding, etc., I believe however , that this scope was used primarily for hunting as there is a substance on the outside of the BROWN VINYL CASE that looks very much LIKE DRIED BLOOD TO ME. Sorry to be gross, but my job is to describe everything and I’m just calling it like I see it. I could of course be wrong. I obtained this item at a HIGH END ESTATE SALE run by an auctioneer who I trust implicitly. The deceased was a real adventurer who travelled the globe, rode motorcycles and for whom flying small planes was a hobby. So, it makes sense that he may have engaged in hunting as well. So far, all the items I purchased at this auction have been quite clean and well taken care of. The scope measures approx 10.25” in length x 1.5” at its widest point. The green housing shows some signs of minor wear which vintage items will and could probably use a good cleaning. It appears to be made of metal. It weighs approx 9.2 oz without the brown vinyl case. Bausch and Lomb had been a leading medical instruments company in the United States since it’s founding in ROCHESTER, NEW YORK in 1853. Its headquarters is now based in Ontario, Canada and it continues to be highly competitive in its field. It is most known for PRECISION.
