It is numbered B-12 at the top and 1481 at the bottom. The hotel was named after General Joseph Orville Shelby, who was born December 12, 1830, in Lexington, Kentucky, and finished the Civil War without a defeat. The back of the card describes the facility as “Bristol’s Newest and Only Fireproof Hotel.” Bristol consists of two cities that sit on either side of the Virginia-Tennessee state line. The boundaries of both cities run parallel to each other along State Street located in their common downtown district. The postcard is new and has not been written on. There are no creases, tears, or bent corners.
