Description: This Razor: This is a well-experienced mid-19th century cutthroat straight razor made by Sheffield cutler, Joseph Rodgers & Sons. It has a classic, subtly smiling bellied blade with a barber's notch, a quarter-hollow grind, and stunning new custom amber-honey horn scales with understated brass pins and pin-collars. Its width is just under 7/8". The tang stamp is partially lost to pitting, however the Rodgers makers mark is clearly preserved. The blade has heavy residual pitting, for which I have reduced the price. The Work: I refurbished this blade by unpinning it, removing all rust and polishing it as best I could. I made new scales with a gorgeous piece of blonde horn and re-pinned them with brass pins and collars, adding pivot washers to enhance its already impressive longevity. This razor has a nice, heavy, old-school feel in the hand with nice balance. 170+ years old and still going strong, ready to serve several more generations! I honed this razor with great care, as I would for my own razors I use for personal daily usethis razor was honed with the following progression with 3 layers of tape to protect the spine. I taught myself to refurbish antique straight razors, utilizing my background in jewelry and sculpture in learning to make custom razor scales, to pin them properly, and, through great effort and dedication, have gained a reputation for nicely honed shaving edges. Each of these blades is a journey, with a history. A man's hands created it long ago to last for generations. You and I are part of those generations. I try to be sensitive and cognizant of the historical context of each razor, as well as the spirit and intentions of the original blade-maker so that I may bring them back to life for you, my customer. *Please note that for international shipping I currently only use eBay's International Shipping Program to take advantage of the protections it provides to me as seller and you as the buyer.
