Description: Here's a fairly uncommon type of AC Amp meter, made by the Sensitive Research Company (Mt Vernon NY). It is the University model Dynamometer AC/DC Ammeter. It does work. The scale is 0 to 5 Amps. The Dynamometer movement involves two coils placed in a very specific relation to each other on a common axis, so that as current strength increases, the torque increases producing a proportional deflection of the indicating needle. Because any AC currents are in phase in both windings, the movement accurately measures current strength over a wide range (from DC to 1000 Hz. for this meter) Dynamometers were the most accurate method of measuring the true RMS value of AC currents, regardless of wave shape, until digital true RMS circuits were developed in the 1970s. This particular meter most likely dates to the 1950s-1960s. Black bakelite, about 5" on each side (cube). weight is 5-1/2 lbs. Thanks for looking!
