Description: This vintage stoneware drinking / beer stein from Germany has so much character! The style and crazing of the finish indicate it's most likely from the 1950s. The lid is a simple, streamlined cap with thumb lever. Very MCM -- Mid-Century Modern. It features the crest of Karlsruhe, Germany -- a shield with a three tower city gate at the top, surrounded by red and gold yellow acanthus leaves, along with the motto "Fidelitas." This stein holds .5 liter as marked in the ceramic. The mug part is 4 7/8 inches tall. The lid takes it to almost 6 inches tall. The mouth opening is about 3 1/4 inches across and the base is about 3 3/4 inches across. The stein weighs a hefty 1 lb 8 oz. The handle is solid and comfortable. There is consistent crazing over the entire ceramic surface. The pewter lid has oxidation consistent with its age. Nice graphics and a good piece of MCM barware.
